What impact did the Black Death have on the decline of Feudalism in Europe?
The Black Death had a big impact on the decline of feudalism in Europe because since the Black Death killed massive amounts of people, landowners would have been experiencing major labour shortages. The black death came from China to Europe from trading post making many of the citizens such as nobles and monarchs catch the black death. This was the opportunity for the peasants and serfs to move away from their land into another town leaving crops to die and animals wandering around.
When the Black Death swept over Europe and wiped out a third of its population, it also declined Feudalism. Peasants and serfs were free to leave the lands of the lords to seek higher wages with the vast labour shortages. Peasants began to demand payment for their crops from their lords for whom they were working. The land that had usually been the primary source of wealth was now worthless. Entire estates were deserted as families fell to the plague and died, or fled in a vain attempt to escape its fury, were there for the taking.
The Black Death had a great impact on the decline of feudalism because of the high death toll. As Europe evolved away from relying on land as the main source of prosperity, a rising middle-class claimed more and more wealth, as the once-noble began to quickly lose wealth.
The Feudal System fell apart completely because there weren't enough people left to work in the fields. Those peasants who survived the disease found that their skills were highly demanded. Suddenly, the can now demand wages for their labour. The Black Death was a "blessing in disguise" for the people who survived. There is no doubt the Black Death sped up the end of feudalism by reducing the amount of peasants and labourers.
